VisitEngland calls for tourism business to get involved in English Tourism Week

Tourism is worth £97billion to the UK economy and employs 2 million people, and English Tourism Week is an opportunity to promote the value of the industry at a national and local level.

VisitEngland, the national tourist board, has mounted a call to action for the industry to get involved in English Tourism Week 2013, and register their special events and activity on the English Tourism Week 2013 website.

Tourism is worth £97billion to the UK economy and employs 2 million people, and English Tourism Week is an opportunity to promote the value of the industry at a national and local level. The week ran for the first time last year, and saw hundreds of attractions, hotels and other tourism businesses across England putting on special events, promotions and competitions to encourage more visitors through their doors and inspire people to become tourism ambassadors for their local area.

Previous English Tourism Week events have ranged from afternoon teas and English-themed baking competitions to art exhibitions, special guided walks and ‘behind the scenes’ tours. This year, the week is running from 16-24 March, and the national tourist board is hoping that English Tourism Week 2013 will be even bigger and better!

To get involved, register the details of your event or promotion through the English Tourism Week event submission form, including web links, contact details and images.  VisitEngland will then promote selected activity via a wide range of channels, including editorial on the award-winning VisitEngland.com website and blog, as well as the tourist board’s Twitter and Facebook pages.

James Berresford, Chief Executive of VisitEngland, commented: “English Tourism Week 2013 is not only an opportunity to promote an industry worth £97billion to the economy, but it’s also to a great way to get Britons thinking of England as their next holiday destination by reminding them what’s on their own doorstep. We want as many tourism businesses and organisations as possible to get involved, and use this national campaign to raise their own profile and encourage more visitors as we kick-off the 2013 holiday season.”
