VITM 2014 opened yesterday in Hanoi

Vietnam International Travel Mart (VITM) is a successful annual professional event, which is organized by Vietnam Tourism Association (VITA), Vietnam Administration of Tourism (VNAT), and Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Hanoi. VITM is the largest outbound travel mart in Vietnam.

The first VITM was held in Hanoi, Vietnam from 18th to 21st April 2013 housing 368 booths of 401 companies and organizations from 18 countries. Over the 4 day event, beside the B2B activities and dozens of international conferences and product and destination presentations, over six thousand tour packages and nearly ten thousand air tickets sold out, making it Vietnam’s largest B2C tourism and travel market. Expected visitors at Vietnam Exhibition Fair Centre (VEFAC) during VITM Hanoi 2014 are estimated to be over 50,000 international and local trade professionals and buyers, while booths rise approximately to 500 in an exhibit area of 11,000 sqm, numbers that make the event a huge success.

Participants are:

  • Travel Agencies
  • Tour Operators
  • Hotels  & Accommodation
  • Airlines and transportation
  • Travel related products & services providers
  • National Tourism Organizations
  • Tourism Associations
  • Travel Media
  • Education & Training providers
  • Medical tourism providers

Vietnam is among fastest growing outbound markets. It is estimated that in 2013 there would be 4 million Vietnamese travelling abroad and spending about 4.5 billion US dollars. Yet, outbound travel is still a new sector, Vietnam’s travel agencies and travelers still have a lack of information about destinations and attractive tourism products (leisure, shopping, medical, wellness tours…). Being the largest outbound travel fair in Vietnam, VITM Hanoi 2014 offers business a great number of opportunities in this market through face-to-face contact with thousands of local trade professionals and potential travelers.

VITM 2014
With numerous World Heritage sites, hundreds of fascinating destinations combined with a people that are rich in traditional culture and diversity of cuisine, Vietnam is one of the world’s top tourism destinations. VITM Hanoi 2014 will provide opportunities for buyers to have FAM trips to discover Vietnam, build connections with local inbound operators, and thus bring more visitors to Vietnam.

Growth international arrivals to Vietnam has remained steady over the past decade reaching 6.8 millions in 2012 (and with 7.5 million expected in 2013). Meanwhile there is a huge shortage of skilled employees within the tourism industry with only 40% of workforce formally trained. VITM Hanoi 2014 will bring no better chances for education/training providers to grasp new business.

With awareness of the need for environmentally and socially responsible tourism growing in Vietnam the VITM Hanoi 2014 is encouraging and supporting organizations/companies to develop exhibition booths and disseminate information material that sensitively care for and promote the local environment and people. Moreover, with consumers increasingly demanding tourism companies to be more environmentally and socially responsible companies that implement sustainable approaches will better meet consumer demand and stand out from the competition.
