The Washington Dulles International Airport AeroTrain APM system comprises 29 fully-automated, driverless cars that transport passengers between the airport's Main Terminal and Concourses A, B, and C.
DULLES, VA. – Crystal Mover Services, Inc. (CMS), the Florida-headquartered joint venture of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries America, Inc. (MHIA), Sumitomo Corporation, and Sumitomo Corporation of Americas (SCOA), has received a renewal and extension of its original Operations and Maintenance (O&M) contract with the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA) for the AeroTrain Automated People Mover (APM) system at Washington Dulles International Airport. The original system O&M contract was for five (5) years, and the new contract includes the operations and maintenance of the AeroTrain for an additional ten (10) years. The total value of this contract is approximately $136 million.
The Washington Dulles International Airport AeroTrain APM system comprises 29 fully-automated, driverless cars that transport passengers between the airport’s Main Terminal and Concourses A, B, and C. The system is 4.4 miles long with four (4) stations and transports 6,550 passengers per hour in each direction. The AeroTrain was constructed by MHIA and SCOA and opened for passenger service in January 2010. Since entering into service, the AeroTrain has demonstrated excellent safety and reliability, having achieved a recent annual average system service availability level of 99. 94%.

CMS is currently performing the O&M for each of MHIA’s four (4) APMs in operation in the United States – The Washington Dulles International Airport AeroTrain, the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport Skytrain, and the Miami International Airport MIA Mover and Skytrain APM systems. CMS will also perform the O&M for an additional three (3) APM systems at Orlando International Airport and an additional APM system at Tampa International Airport, which are currently under construction by MHIA.
