William Restaurant at Belmond Reid’s Palace awarded first Michelin Star

Named after Scotsman Mr. William Reid, a visionary and the founder of Belmond Reid’s Palace, William Restaurant launched in June 2015.

William Restaurant at Belmond Reid’s Palace, Madeira, has gained its first Michelin star, less than two years after opening. The signature dining experience, led by Executive Chef Luís Pestana, is listed in the Michelin Guide for Spain and Portugal 2017.

Named after Scotsman Mr. William Reid, a visionary and the founder of Belmond Reid’s Palace, William Restaurant launched in June 2015. Chef Luís, a Portuguese national who has been a part of the culinary team at the hotel for 26 years, offers a creative approach to modern European cuisine, influenced by international cooking techniques and innovative flavours. The menu showcases the finest produce from the island in seasonal dishes of the highest quality. A destination dining experience, William Restaurant offers panoramic views of the Funchal coastline and Atlantic Ocean.

Belmond Reid’s Palace is the fourth hotel in the Belmond portfolio to be awarded a Michelin star – alongside MEE at Belmond Copacabana Palace in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Oro at Belmond Hotel Cipriani in Venice, Italy and Belmond Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons in Oxfordshire which has retained its two Michelin stars since 1982.

Set on a clifftop spanning10 acres of subtropical gardens, Belmond Reid’s Palace has just marked its 125th anniversary as one of the world’s most elegant hotels. Loyal guests over the decadesinclude royalty, prime ministers, film icons and notable authors, drawn to the hotel and spa for rest and relaxation, as well as a base from which to explore the surroundings through hiking, horse-riding or water sports.
