Expedition Zero opens seed funding for building the world’s first net-zero yachts, inviting investors to join as Ambassadors in pioneering sustainable ocean voyages.
Expedition Zero, a pioneer in sustainable exploration sailing, has officially opened its seed funding round, seeking visionary investors who are eager to be part of an innovative and impactful project. Focused on designing and building the world’s first net-zero adventure yachts, Expedition Zero is on a mission to redefine ocean voyages with minimal environmental impact, paving the way for sustainable experiential sailing.
This funding opportunity invites individuals who share a passion for innovation, sustainability and ocean preservation to become Ambassadors of Net-Zero Yachting. As Ambassadors, they will not only support the creation of a fleet of groundbreaking yachts, but also be immersed in the development journey from start to finish. Being part of this forward-thinking project directly contributes to a legacy that will shape the future of yachting and protect our oceans for generations to come.
Expedition Zero’s approach ensures Ambassadors are fully involved at every stage of the project, from following the yacht’s construction at the shipyard to being present for the launch of the first vessel. Far more than an investment; this is a unique chance to belong to a revolutionary movement in environmentally-friendly sailing.
“We are building something far beyond a yacht,” says Andrew Cowen, founder of Expedition Zero. “Our Ambassadors will help craft a new era of exploration that leaves no trace, championing a future where adventure sailing takes us to the farthest reaches of the world without harming the planet.”
In collaboration with experienced builders Innovation Yachts, the net-zero vessels will be built using proven sustainable, recyclable materials and powered entirely by renewable energy, including solar, wind, and hydropower. These yachts, designed for both eco-conscious adventurers and commercial operators, will deliver high performance with minimal environmental impact, redefining what it means to sail sustainably.
Saker Films and BAFTA award-winning explorer Steve Backshall, known for his powerful natural world documentaries, plan to work in partnership with Expedition Zero, using their yachts in upcoming projects. Backshall has praised the vision of creating a boat capable ofcrossing the globe without harming the environment and their remarkable commitment to sustainability.
Expedition Zero’s seed funding round aims to raise £1 million by December 2024 to accelerate the development of its groundbreaking fleet. By becoming part of this epic plan, Ambassadors will not only invest in the latest technology but also play a key role in evolving an ethical future for adventure sailing.
This is a rare chance to be part of a mission that extends far beyond funding, allowing investors to play a pivotal role shaping the future of the marine industry whilst leaving a lasting ocean legacy for generations to come.
Offshore sailing expert Andy Hindley appointed as new Technical Advisor
Also, Expedition Zero welcome industry expert Andy Hindley to its advisory board. Bringing decades of expertise in building high performing global sailing businesses Hindley’s impressive career includes pivotal roles as COO of the America’s Cup, CFO of Ben Ainslie Racing, and Race Director for the Volvo Ocean Race. His wealth of strategic knowledge and industry experience will play a key role in driving forward ExpeditionZero’s vision to create fully recyclable, fossil fuel-free adventure sailing yachts.
“All through my life I’ve pushed the envelope in one way or another”, commented Hindley. “The only ever Duke of Edinburgh Gold expedition on the open sea, sailing the wrong way round the world, Team Philips, Volvo Ocean Race in state of the art swing keel yachts, America’s Cup is multihulls, pioneering British America’s Cup team – they were all challenges and adventures in the art of the possible. And that is what Expedition Zero is; an opportunity to do something revolutionary. That is what attracted me, and motivates me to help the team achieve the goal.”
Andrew Cowen, CEO of Expedition Zero, adds, “Having someone of Andy’s calibre join us is hugely exciting. His technical and business experience will further strengthen our board and accelerate our journey to build ExpeditionZero into a champion for sustainable ocean adventure.”
Expedition Zero’s leadership team combines a broad range of exceptional experience: Andrew Cowen (CEO), Jim Dobie (Chief Operating Officer), Richard Wilson (Chairperson) and Innovation Yachts (led by Norbert Sedlacek Koch), alongside Aly Rahimtoola and Andy Hindley as advisory board members. With a combined strength in innovation, sailing, and sustainable investment, ExpeditionZero is uniquely positioned to lead positive change in the sailing industry. By significantly reducing the environmental footprint of adventure sailing and elevating the business model for operators, ExpeditionZero presents a compelling opportunity for investors to help redefine the future of sustainable marine exploration.
