Britons are among the world's most frequent travellers, according to a study presented at the recent World Travel Market 2000 fair in London.

Dr. Auliana Poon presented the results of the survey 'How the British will Travel in 2005', carried out by Tourism Intelligence International (TII<.>), at the exhibition where she noted that Britain ranks fourth after the US, Germany and Japan in terms of the volume of trips undertaken. The study showed that 55 million trips were organised from the UK and $35 billion spent.

Britain is witnessing the highest increase in demand for cruises while its citizens, generally, love to travel. More specifically, they like to visit foreign countries and destinations which offer sun and sea as well as those that are relatively undiscovered. Weekend breaks in nearby cities are becoming particularly popular, as are all-inclusive resorts.

Greece ranked fourth among Britons' preferred destinations in 1998, the study found, after Spain, France and Ireland. Italy placed fifth. It is expected that these preferences will not change over the next few years.
