HomeToGo unveils top40 trending destinations to celebrate National Travel & Tourism Week

According to internal data from HomeToGo, well-known destinations like Panama City in Florida’s Panhandle, as well as lesser-known gems such as Lake Sam Rayburn in the heart of East Texas, are garnering high interest.

The U.S. travel community is preparing to celebrate the 40th anniversary of National Travel & Tourism Week from May 7-13, spotlighting the integral role travel holds for economies, business and personal well-being! To mark this big milestone, vacation rental marketplace HomeToGo,  has identified the top 40 trending destinations in the U.S. that have skyrocketed in popularity over the past year.

According to internal data from HomeToGo, well-known destinations like Panama City in Florida’s Panhandle, as well as lesser-known gems such as Lake Sam Rayburn in the heart of East Texas, are garnering high interest. As eagerness and excitement surrounding travel continue to move forward, vacationers are eyeing up a variety of destinations across the country, some of which may come as a surprise.

HomeToGo 2023’s Top 40 Trending Destinations in the U.S.

Based on year-over-year search trends, here’s a snapshot of the country’s top five out of 40 trending destinations for 2023 as identified by HomeToGo:

  1. Cocoa Beach, Florida (Annual Search Increase: 506%): A Florida favorite, Cocoa Beach is a pristine destination located along the Atlantic Ocean that invites travelers to enjoy phenomen al beaches, kayak through lagoons, and more. Vacationers can even watch a space launch from the beach or the Cocoa Beach Pier.
  2. Gearhart, Oregon (Annual Search Increase: 466%): Located just three miles from the well-known resort town of Seaside, Gearhart, Oregon is a charming, hidden gem along the West Coast packed with unique experiences for travelers such as whale
    watching or digging for razor clams.
  3. Wrigleyville, Chicago, Illinois (Annual Search Increase: 342%): Perfect for baseball enthusiasts and travelers alike, Wrigley is home to the second oldest ballpark in the country where vacationers can catch a Chicago Cubs game or watch from afar at an abun dance of well-known rooftop bars.
  4. Mammoth Mountain Ski Area, California (Annual Search Increase: 336%): As the highest ski resort in California, Mammoth Mountain Ski Area invites thrill-seeking vacationers to hit the slopes and enjoy its 300 days of sunshine a year.
  5. Smyrna, Tennessee (Annual Search Increase: 336%): Located just outside of Nashville in the heart of Tennessee, Smyrna is an up-and-coming destination with unique experiences like relaxing in Salt Barns or watching the Tennessee Air Show

Fun Facts About the Top 40 Trending Destinations:

  • Traveling with Pets: More than 36,000 pets stayed in HomeToGo vacation rentals last year, roughly three times the population of Cocoa Beach, FL.
  • Biggest Splurge: The largest and most expensive booking on HomeToGo last year was located in Cape Coral, Florida.
  • Interest Across America: The list of 40 trending destinations features 24 different states scattered throughout each region.
  • Heading South: The south is heating up as 17 of the 40 featured destinations are nestled throughout the lower region of the United States. More specifically, 14 destinations reside in the Southeast, while the three Southwest destinations are located in Texas.
  • Vacationers Fancy Florida: Florida topped the list as the most searched state with five different destinations featured. The average year-over-year search increase for Cocoa Beach, Panama City, Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale and Port Canaveral is 234%.
