There are unconfirmed reports that sex attacks on holidaying British women are increasing in Spain, Turkey, and Greece. Figures form the British Consumers Association Holiday Magazine indicate that the incidence in Turkey has trebled in four years while in Greece it has doubled in two years. In Spain the incidence remains somewhat constant, with some 26 such reported attacks last year.

Advice to single female tourists offered be British Metropolitan police is as follows:


Avoid walking back to your hotel alone at night. Book a taxi in advance for your return to your hotel before going out.

Try to avoid being separated from friends.

Do not let strangers ply you with drinks.

Watch that your drinks are not spiked.

Wearing a long-sleeved shirt in the evening can send our a deterrent segnal.

Avoid eye contact or conversation with anyone you are not interested in.

Keep a perfume spray in your handbag to use on would-be attackers' eyes.

Hide the room number when handing a key to reception desk.
