MELBOURNE – The Nordic tour operator, 50 Degrees North, have recovered from the COVID-19 pandemic as the only true Nordic destination specialist in the Australian market. The popularity of the comparatively safe Nordic region has meant that 2022 saw the return of 2019 revenue and staffing levels, with 2023 expected to break all previous company records.

“Our global team across three continents will soon reach 50 people which brings us back to early 2020 levels”, said Tietse Stelma, 50 Degrees North’s Norwegian founder and CEO. “Of course, this situation is not without its challenges: We are dealing with the same issues as the entire travel industry with very high enquiry levels, exponential growth, and a lot of new staff. But we are a people-centred company, and we have made significant investments in staff wellbeing and efficiency to be better able to respond to enquiries.”

50 Degrees North’s survival through the pandemic years was helped by the North American luxury travel market, particularly luxury travel to Iceland. The luxury sector has also been one of first to bounce back in the AU and NZ travel industry, further contributing to the company’s growth trajectory.
