Cambrian Escapes launches The Wild Collective experience led farm stay breaks in West Wales

Harnessing the talents of the local community of artists, foragers, wild swimmers, explorers and stargazers.

Cambrian Escapes, a smallholding in deeply rural Carmarthenshire offering farm stays has launched a new collection of exceptional experiences – The Wild Collective – for visitors.

The focus is on nature, adventure and creativity to offer guests the chance to book restorative breaks with a ‘wild’ theme whilst staying at stylish yet rustic accommodation on the farm which is located between the Brecon Beacons and the Cambrian Mountains in West Wales close to the market town of Llandovery.

From quiet moon walks, meadow mooching to forest bathing, foraging, felting and stargazing safaris, The Wild Collective is a team of artists, swimmers, explorers and adventurers ready to share their skills and local knowledge experience of the heritage, culture, crafts and astounding landscapes of the area.

Duncan and Tanya Jordan moved to Penstacan Farm in 2018, surrendering their established careers to concentrate on creating Cambrian Escapes, a farm stay experience with a difference focusing on what they describe as nature friendly wilder tourism’.

After painstakingly restoring their newly purchased farm with its 18th Century woollen mill, a hayloft and eclectic mezzanine cottage as guest accommodation, they have also opened up as a rustic ‘greener’ camping experience during the summer months across their 30 acres of meadows.

They are focused on helping their visitors really connect with their surroundings and declutter scrambled brains by sharing their little black book of rural talent which has developed into The Wild Collective.

In essence it’s a group of brilliant guides and makers offering superb activities and adventures that flourish in their community. They can suggest one off activities to guests or book a curated experience over two or more days combining several experiences for a small contribution of £25 to their farm’s tree planting project.

They’ve even brought together different ways to combine these experiences under suggested itineraries such as:

  • The Really Wild One!: Explore the five peaks of Fforest Fawr or take on climbing Pen Y Fan, then refresh the day of wandering by swimming in Welsh waterfalls priced from £280 per person.
  • Dark and Wild : Spend a day out in the wilderness with Cambrian Safaris. Then next night head up to Dark Sky Discovery site for a star show priced from £215 per person.
  • Sparkle and Stars: A restorative waterfall walk and swim in inky pools to get your endorphins flowing. Enjoy sunset & stars with a guided evening and night-time walk in a dark sky reserve priced from £210 per person.

Other experiences include felt making or canotyping with Jane Evans in their own village of Cilycwm, or spending a day exploring the mountains astride a Welsh Section D cob, or even some less structured experiences such as taking a tour to learn more about the biodiversity of the land and how a section of Duncan and Tanya’s meadows are now part of a Welsh Wildlife Trust pilot project to protect the habitat.
