March 20, 2003 – Cancellations

So far, indications from a wide cross section of the U.S. travel industry are that consumers are postponing rather than canceling trips. Consumers are taking advantage of recently announced relaxed cancellation policies by various segments of the industry but airlines in particular, and are simply rebooking within one to three months in anticipation of an early end of hostilities and a return to normalcy. For a historical perspective, immediately following the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, most trips were rebooked within one to three months.
