industry leaders, top investors, leading entrepreneurs, decision-makers,

government officials, policy formers and professionals at the 1st European Golf

Investment & Real Estate Conference & Exhibit
in Athens on

November 28th, 2003.

ELKE is the one-stop shop for foreign investors. Its mandate is to seek, promote and support foreign direct investment in Greece and international alliances with Greek companies.

Career summary

Stratos was appointed Chairman of the Board of ELKE in May 2002.

Prior to joining ELKE, he was Managing Director of the Athens Urban Transport Organisation (OASA), a post he assumed in July 1997. During his five-year tenure at OASA, the public transportation companies under the OASA umbrella were reorganised and restructured financially, a major investment plan was implemented, and a variety of innovative programmes were introduced which modernized public transport in greater Athens.

From 1994 to 1997 he was adviser to the Ministry of National Economy on transport, development, and project finance issues, during which time he represented the Ministry at international conferences and for a. At the same time he was Vice Chairman of the Hellenic Railways Project Company and on the Board of Directors of Egnatia Odos SA.

Stratos worked in the private and public sectors from 1986-1994. From 1986-1989 he was Special Adviser to the Ministry of Transport on transport planning and from 1989-1994 was Head of New Projects Development at Vipetva SA, a development studies and project management company.

Stratos is a graduate of the City College of the City University of New York with a Bachelor’s degree (1980) in Civil Engineering. He earned his post-graduate degrees in M.Sc. in Civil Engineering (1981), M.Sc. in Management (1982) and a Ph.D. in Transportation Planning and Engineering (1986) at the Polytechnic Institute of New York where he was also Special Research Fellow. From 1980-82 he worked as a civil engineer for the New York City Transit Authority.

Stratos retains close academic ties. Since 2001 he has been Assistant Professor in the Department of Maritime Studies at the University of Piraeus and was Lecturer from 1994-1997. He has published numerous articles on transport planning and transport finance in academic journals.
