HIGH LEVEL THINK TANK

“Towards Ubiquitous Digital Content – Building the foundation for digital content business in the enlarged European multicultural society”

The eContent programme is about bringing different worlds together and lowering barriers to the exploitation and development of e-content (Erkki Liikanen, June 2001). This is only possible if the different worlds of press, media, and content providers meet each other and succeed in cooperating to maximise the outcome in the current digital environment, with the broad spectrum of tools and technologies available.

To support this idea, eEBO organises a High Level Think Tank summit in collaboration with the Greek EU-Presidency – the event is included in the Greek EU Presidency’s official agenda – and with the participation of high level executives of public institutions, industry associations and the industry itself. This event will take place in Greece on June 13th 2003 at Athens Hilton Hotel.

The summit will have a crucial eContent awareness dimension and will bring together different parties. These parties belong to the digital content industries, are at the source of content and are policy makers that can influence national and European policies. The goal of this Think Tank is to provide policy makers and the digital content industry with a view on which challenges and possibilities they face in this economic and culturally crucial sector for Europe. It will also contribute to the creation of a common vision with regard to technology, address business opportunities, and establish a strong foothold and visibility for the European digital content industry.

Based on eEurope 2005, the Council Decision on the eContent programme, the Greek action plan for the Information Society, and the EU enlargement process, the scope of the Think Tank is suggested to be “Towards Ubiquitous Digital Content – Building the foundation for digital content business in the enlarged European multicultural society”.
