Days after the Seattle earthquake, residents will be reminded of another event that shook the world-the sinking of the Titanic on April 14, 1912.

Pacific Science Center hosts the opening ceremonies for the West Coast premiere of TITANIC: The Artifact Exhibit. Captain E. J. Smith, commander of the ill-fated steamship, will officiate the ceremonies and deliver his Retirement Speech, the last formal address Captain Smith made before Titanic`s maiden voyage.

Following the speech, King County Executive Ron Sims will assist in cutting the ribbon, making way for the first passengers to walk the gangway to TITANIC: The Artifact Exhibit. After the ceremony, media and camera crews will be admitted to the exhibit. The blockbuster exhibit runs through September 3 (Labor Day) and is being presented by Pacific Science Center/Seattle.

The Artifact Exhibit is a 12,000-square-foot experience, featuring hundreds of artifacts recovered from the ship`s wreckage set amongst full-scale scenic environments. The exhibit combines history, science and drama as visitors uncover the stories behind the most famous ship ever built and its tragic demise. Discover how science and technology have brought Titanic to us today. Pacific Science Center has collaborated with RMS Titanic, Inc. and SFX on the exhibit.
