The UK travellers are travelling and spending more on hotel bookings according to statistics released by a leading online accommodation reservation service, HolidayCity.com. There is an increase of 42.5% in the number of hotel bookings made by UK travellers from January to March 2007.

This translates to a total transaction value of nearly USD2 million, a phenomenal increase of 58.7% from the same period in 2006.

London remains the top domestic destination for UK travellers, followed by Glasgow and Cardiff. They are also travelling further away from home with Auckland topping the list for the top international destinations with an increase of 57.5% for hotel bookings made in the first quarter of 2007. New Zealand is clearly a favourite country destination with another of its major, Christchurch, occupying the sixth position in the same list. The trend of travelling to distant destinations continues with Sydney and Singapore taking top positions.

The data was collected from hotel bookings made in the first quarter of 2007 by HolidayCity.com’s customers.
