The Airport Build & Supply Exhibition, which opens next week (May 28-30), is generating major interest from local and international suppliers, with a UAE-based PVC piping company seeking to secure its second contract in connection with the development of Dubai International Airport.

Sharjah-based National Plastic & Building Material Industries LLC, manufacturer and worldwide supplier of PVC piping systems, won the contract to supply the piping infrastructure for Dubai International Airport`s concourse, as part of the first development phase.

With our involvement in the first phase of the airport development programme, we are hoping to secure a contract to carry out work for the forthcoming airport projects, said David Bray, assistant general manager of National Plastics.

The company will use the exhibition to highlight the expansion and upgrade of its production facilities covering an area of more than 18,000sqm, a move which will enhance its services as the regional distributor for FIP Italy, Hunter UK, Spears USA and IPS USA, specialising in high quality plastic pipe systems and irrigation equipment.

National Plastic products have been used in a number of local and international projects including United Nations worldwide agencies, Dubai Municipality projects, Etisalat telecommunication network and some of the new Emmar projects.

The Airport Build & Supply Exhibition, held under the patronage of H.H.Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of Dubai`s Department of Civil Aviation, and chairman of Emirates, the official airline for the show, is a vital part of the decision-making process for the $1.4 billion second phase development at Dubai International Airport.

Another UAE-based company, Convrgent Value Engineering LLC, is aiming for major business growth in the Middle East, by using the exhibition to promote its concept of design and build construction, while forecasting an increase in its annual turnover from Dhs 120 million this year to Dhs 200 million in 2002.

Convrgnt`s sophisticated technology and innovative solutions have produced a portfolio featuring some of the most significant projects in the region, including the 22-storey Dubai Tower on the creek, Bait Al Bahar at Jumeirah Beach Resort, and Emirates Academy for Hospitality Management. One of the company`s unique projects, commissioned by Dubai Civil Aviation, was to dismantle and remove four buildings including the Airport Terminal, duty free, MET office buildings and the Transit building. Covering an area of 20,000sqm, the project was completed in record time of 140 days – 30 days ahead of schedule. These buildings are stored, coded, tagged and packed by Convrgnt for re-sale as either airport facilities or other commercial use.

For German company Manfred Fladung, which is looking to attract a strong partner in the Middle East, the exhibition presents a major opportunity to introduce a new cable coil for the Airbus A380, and a temperature monitoring system, a new safety feature which prevents overheating of aircraft connectors.

London-based Ferranti Air Systems Ltd is aiming to expand its client base in the Middle East, specifically in Dubai, and will use the exhibition to outline its IT solutions for the aviation industry.

Joanne Evans, director of Streamline Marketing, said: The exhibition is attracting a broad cross-section of suppliers and contractors vying to be part of this exciting and ambitious airport development of Dubai international Airport into one of the world`s leading civil aviation hubs.
