easyJet and UNICEF celebrate over 1 million euros donation from passengers across Europe

The 1 million euros total raised across easyJet’s 130 destinations will enable UNICEF to protect nearly 2.5 million children and mums from deadly childhood diseases and maternal and newborn tetanus.

easyJet and UNICEF celebrate the launch of easyJet’s exclusive plane to mark the ‘Change for Good’ partnership, which has raised over 1 million euros through passenger donations across Europe to help save children’s lives.

The 1 million euros total raised across easyJet’s 130 destinations will enable UNICEF to protect nearly 2.5 million children and mums from deadly childhood diseases and maternal and newborn tetanus.

In addition, the money raised will help protect a further 3 million children from blindness, through vital vitamin A supplements; as well as training health workers and mothers to deliver life saving support to mothers in Africa.

From Friday 14th December easyJet crew across Europe will be dressed in Santa hats encouraging passengers to donate to UNICEF throughout the festive period. In addition, all passengers travelling with easyJet tomorrow will receive complimentary chocolates as a thank you for supporting the ‘Change for Good’ programme.

The exclusively branded aircraft will become the ambassador of the Change for Good programme, which runs across all easyJet’s 600 routes enabling easyJet’s passengers to support UNICEF’s life-saving work.

Carolyn McCall, easyJet’s Chief Executive said: “We are absolutely thrilled to have raised 1m euros, it will help save the lives of so many children. I’d like to thank our passengers who have so generously donated to this worthy cause and everyone at easyJet who has supported the fundraising effort.”

Regional Manager Ground Operations for Greece and Cyprus, Mr. Stefanos Vakirtzis added: “We make travel easy and affordable and this is why we have collaborated with UNICEF to develop a simple way for our passengers to help save children’s lives every time they fly. Just 60 cents could cover the full cost of vaccinating a child against a deadly childhood disease, proving that easyJet’s passengers really can make a difference this festive season.

We are incredibly grateful that our passengers in Cyprus have been so generous. Our passengers can continue making a difference to children’s lives by continuing to donate onboard until January for the winter collection”.

During the winter and summer months, passengers across Europe can make a difference for children simply by putting their spare change or notes into ‘Change for Good’ pouches during their flight. In the winter season passengers can donate on board from 1st December to 31st January.

The programme is part of UNICEF’s global ‘Change for Good’ initiative, which to-date has raised 66 million euros for the world’s most vulnerable children in partnership with leading airlines across the globe.
