The intensive efforts of the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs bore fruits as the Turkish authorities responsible for issuing visas, gave their approval of granting a one year valid free visa for Iraqis landing at Ataturk Airport in Istanbul. This procedure had a significant effect in encouraging commerce, communication and tourism between the two countries.
Before the expiry of the one year validity indicated above, the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs addressed its Turkish counterpart on the aim of extending the activation of this mechanism.
The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Effairs informed the Iraqi Embassy in Ankara that it has been decided that the validity period of the visa facilitations granted to the Iraqi ordinary passport holders traveling from Baghdad and Erbil or via Amman International Airports to Istanbul Ataturk Airport, have been extended to 5 may 2007, as the visa will allow them to stay in Turkey for 30 days.
This step will contributed to strengthening communication between the people of the two neighbor and friendly countries to serve their interests.
