Radisson SAS Hotels & Resorts, the full-service international brand of Rezidor SAS Hospitality, has opened their tenth hotel in the UK , the Radisson SAS Hotel London Stansted Airport. The new hotel is just a two-minute walk via covered walkway from the terminal of the UK’s fastest growing airport and is the new flagship property of the Radisson SAS portfolio in the UK.

The hotel features Europe’s only ‘Wine Tower’ in the atrium of the hotel. Standing at over 43 feet tall, the tower is home to 4,000 bottles of wine. A high-speed computer-controlled winch system transports human ‘wine angels’ up and down the tower to retrieve chosen bottles of wine before delivering them safely to guests’ tables.

The hotel’s 500 rooms are designed in three distinct styles – Chilli, Ocean and Urban – providing a choice of accommodations to suit individual preferences. The Urban style is fiery and vibrant with red furniture and dark wood. The Ocean style reflects the calm of the sea with blues and jade greens, while the Chilli style features bright colors with quirky furniture, creating an atmosphere distinctly different from traditional airport hotels. All rooms are equipped with wireless Internet access.

The hotel’s four restaurants, individually designed by Roy Ackerman, a leading restaurateur in the UK, provide an array of dining options. Guests can enjoy pasta and brick-oven pizza in Filini’s or oysters and authentic juicy burgers in the New York Bar and Grill. TaPaell’Ya offers traditional Spanish tapas and casual all-day dining is available in the atrium restaurant.

Each of the hotel’s 26 meeting rooms – a total of 4,265 square feet of space – feature wireless Internet access, video conferencing and natural light from floor to ceiling windows. The Essex Room, the largest of the meeting rooms, can accommodate up to 300 people.

The hotel also features a health club with spa treatment rooms, an indoor pool and a gym. Rates start at £115 (approx. $215 U.S.) per night per room.

Kurt Ritter, president and CEO of Rezidor SAS Hospitality, states: “We are continuing our expansion in the UK, and are delighted to have opened this flagship property fully-owned by Rezidor SAS. We feel that this design-led hotel is leading the way for Radisson SAS’ new breed of hotels. In this past year we have had three new openings and two acquisitions in the region, including the introduction of the Park Inn brand, and we now have a total of 11 properties open in the UK.”

In the past year, Rezidor SAS has added Radisson SAS hotels in Liverpool and Belfast, Northern Ireland; Edinburgh, Scotland; and the Park Inn Heathrow, England. Rezidor SAS also currently operates Radisson SAS hotels in London, Manchester and Leeds, England; Glasgow and Stirlingshire, Scotland; and Limavady, Northern Ireland. The Radisson SAS Hotel Birmingham, England is scheduled to open in July 2005.
