The Newark flights will supplement the JFK service and will operate four times per week on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
QUINCY, MASS. – Icelandair is pleased to announce it will begin scheduled service from Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) on October 28, 2013.
Icelandair has served the New York City market for over 60 years with flights to and from John F. Kennedy International (JFK) and will continue to do so. The Newark flights will supplement the JFK service and will operate four times per week on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
Birkir Holm Gudnason, CEO of Icelandair said “Our New York traffic has been growing during the winter months, and we have increased our frequency up to ten flights per week. In fact, three days of the week we have two flights taking off within minutes of each other. With the addition of our Newark service we will be able to transfer some of this traffic to another airport that will provide our passengers with more choice, added flexibility and increased flight connection options.”
Newark will be the 11th Icelandair gateway in North America and the 36th destination within the Icelandair global route network. “These flights will support both our connecting flights across the Atlantic and the growing winter tourism industry in Iceland,” Gudnason added.
The 2013 timetable is the largest in Icelandair’s 76 year history and is 15% larger than last year. Newark is the fourth destination that has been introduced this year joining Anchorage, Alaska, St. Petersburg, Russia and Zurich, Switzerland.
In addition to Newark, Icelandair offers service to Iceland from Boston, New York-JFK, Seattle, Denver and Toronto with seasonal service from Washington, D.C., Minneapolis-St. Paul, Orlando Sanford, Halifax, and Anchorage (starting May 15, 2013). Connections through Icelandair’s hub at Keflavik International Airport are available to more than 20 destinations in Scandinavia, the U.K. and Continental Europe.
Only Icelandair allows passengers to stopover in Iceland at no additional airfare.
