It was confirmed by the Chairman of the Bahrain International Circuit, HE Shaikh Fawaz bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, that Gulf Air is to be the major and naming rights sponsor, and official carrier, for the 2004 Formula One Grand Prix, scheduled to be held on April 4, 2004.

Commenting on the announcement, Gulf Air President and Chief Executive, James Hogan said: Gulf Air is both honoured and delighted to be part of this milestone event in the history of Bahrain and of the region as a whole. I would like to thank our partners in the Bahrain International Circuit and the Bahrain Motorsport Federation for their support and endorsement during the negotiations leading up to this agreement.

Gulf Air`s involvement in the Grand Prix extends well beyond sponsorship to other operational and logistical questions as well.

This is very much a partnership with the Government, the Bahrain Racing Circuit Company and the Bahrain Motorsport Federation, he said. To this end, discussions between the airline and with the relevant ministries are at an advanced stage, to ensure that all arrangements are of the highest standard.

In the UK, Gulf Air are in negotiations with a number of leading specialist tour operators to put together packages to the Grand Prix.
