The New York City chapter of Skal International, the largest organization of travel professionals in the world, launched Young Skal at a recent luncheon. Young Skal will give students and young professionals in the tourism industry, who are between the ages of 20 and 29, the opportunity to participate in the international network of Skal, which includes over 25,000 members in 500 cities and 80 countries. James Sorrell, President of Skal International NY and Senior Vice President of New York TAB, urged NY Skal members to “invest in the future of the club and industry” by recruiting professionals for Young Skal.
Young Skalleagues, when qualified or on their 35th birthday, will automatically graduate to active membership in Skal, ensuring a continuous supply of new and young members in the club. “Young Skal members may participate in Skal activities, network with Skal members and gain valuable professional experience and training,” said Judi Stern, professor in the Tourism and Hospitality Department at Kingsborough Community College/CUNY and Chairperson for the Young Skal Committee.
