AFTA recognises Tourism New Zealand with award

Tourism New Zealand has won the Australian Federation of Travel Agents (AFTA) National Travel Industry Award for Best Tourist Office – International. The announcement was made at AFTA’s annual awards function, held in Sydney on 9 July.

AFTA Chief Executive Jayson Westbury said, "the standard of entries was extremely high and 2011 saw more nominations than ever before – Tourism New Zealand’s success is something to be very proud of."

Tourism New Zealand Regional Manager Australia Tim Burgess said the recognition was good news given the focus on encouraging more visitors from Australia to come to New Zealand.

"Australia is our number one market and despite the travel options open to Aussies at the moment, we’re pushing New Zealand hard through activities such as Rugby World Cup 2011 and the MasterChef New Zealand special.

"The award is recognition of a lot of work by Tourism New Zealand staff and with our partners to ensure our country remains at the forefront of a rapidly changing tourism industry."

Also nominated for the Best Tourist Office – International award were; California Tourism, Hawaii Tourism Oceania, Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, and the Singapore Tourism Board.  The award recognises superior service in the provision of information and marketing support for the destination the tourist office represents.
