For the 13th consecutive year, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is the busiest passenger airport in the world and, for the fifth consecutive year, is also the world’s busiest airport in terms of operations (landings and takeoffs).
According to a year-end report issued by the Airport, passenger and air cargo traffic at Hartsfield-Jackson increased in 2010 over 2009.
"We are pleased that Hartsfield-Jackson has grown both its passenger and air cargo numbers in 2010 and is recognized as the world’s busiest passenger airport again," said Aviation General Manager Louis Miller. "We anticipate further growth in 2011 as we focus our energies on being the global leader in airport efficiency and customer service excellence."
Hartsfield-Jackson’s passenger numbers increased by 1.51 percent – from 88 million in 2009 to 89.33 million in 2010. International passengers increased by 3.47 percent – from 8.83 million to 9.14 million, slightly less than 2008’s record number of 9.18 million international passengers.
Total air cargo grew by 17.05 percent – from 563,139 metric tons in 2009 to 659,129 metric tons in 2010. International air cargo increased by 24.22 percent – from 310,055 metric tons to 385,136 metric tons.
While landings and takeoffs decreased by 2.07 percent – from 970,235 in 2009 to 950,119 in 2010 – Hartsfield-Jackson remains the world’s busiest airport in terms of operations.
