New York City & Company has chosen Aviareps for its representation in China and Korea. The airline and tourism representative company was contracted as agency of NYC & Company in the Netherlands, Italy, Spain, Scandinavia, Russia as well as in Germany (via Aviareps Mangum) and in the United Kingdom (via Hills Balfour Synergies). With immediate effect, Aviareps Marketing Garden – located in Shanghai and Seoul – will now handle all destination marketing and public relation activities on behalf of NYC & Company.

“We are very delighted to represent New York City in China and Korea, adding a very important client portfolio for both countries. With this new appointment, Aviareps Marketing Garden will contribute to strengthen the position of New York City as the leading travel destination in both markets,” said Michael D. Merner, Chairman of Aviareps Marketing Garden.

Since the economy of both China and Korea has steadily matured, outbound travel from the countries has grown tremendously. Travel to New York has been on the rise from both countries, jumping sharply from 59,000 visitors in 2002 to 150,000 in 2006 from China and 81,000 in 2002 to 242,000 from Korea respectively.

The high volume of travellers from both countries to New York City coupled with residents’ increased interest in leisure tourism opportunities makes the region among the most important in the campaign to achieve New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg’s goal of welcoming 50 million visitors annually by 2015.
