“We are pleased to announce strong traffic figures for November. The Group had an increase in the number of passengers by 7% and a growth in passenger traffic of 28 %. Norwegian.no transported 11 % more passengers and had a growth of 23 % in passenger traffic compared to the same period last year. This confirms that our focus on domestic market has given positive results and that our customers appreciate our low fares in a challenging macro economic time,” says CEO of Norwegian Bjorn Kjos.

The total number of passengers flown in November 2008 was 630,919 compared to 566,467 last year, an increase of 64,452 passengers (11 %), and a 23% increase in passenger traffic.

  • The cabin factor was 75%, which is a decrease of 1 percentage point compared to the same period last year.
  • The company estimates a yield around NOK 0.71 for November 2008 (+15%)

The increase in passenger traffic, production and passengers is related to the company’s expansion in established markets and to the introduction of new routes from December 2007 to November 2008, as well as adjustments in production capacity and a steady increase in passengers.

Domestic passenger traffic increased by 26% and capacity increased by 37%, resulting in a cabin factor of 72 % which is a decrease of 6 pp compared to the same period last year. The growth is a result of shifting capacity toward new routes in the domestic market.

International passenger traffic increased by 22% and capacity increased by 19%, giving a cabin factor of 77 %, which is an increase of 2 percentage points compared to the same period last year. The operation in Poland performs according to plan. The new base in Copenhagen accounted for approximately 2% of Norwegian.no’s total production in November.

The yield is estimated at NOK 0.71 for the period (+15%). The increase in yield more than offset the decrease in load factor. The net effect is an increase in unit revenue (RASK). The average flying distance was equivalent to November last year. Internet sales accounted for 86% of tickets sold in November.
