A record year on year increase in traffic on Aer Arann flights departing from the UK to Cork, Waterford and Galway in Ireland has been announced by the regional carrier. The carrier experienced these unprecedented increases during the first six months of 2007, in comparison with the first six months of 2006.

Traffic from UK airports has gone up an impressive 32% on routes to Cork and 26% on routes to Galway – both popular tourism destinations in the Emerald Isle. The top increase seen in traffic departing from UK airports was to the home of Waterford Crystal – an astounding 56% growth in visitors on Aer Arann flights has been recorded to Waterford, in comparison with 2006.

Aer Arann has stepped up routes to Ireland this year with new routes departing from Bristol and Newcastle to Galway, Birmingham to Waterford, and Manchester to Sligo. Tourism Ireland comments “We are delighted that so many travellers are taking advantage of these Aer Arann routes directly into the regions of Ireland and expect to see further growth to these areas as Ireland is without a doubt one of the finest destinations with unparalleled culture, history, countryside and coastline.”

Colin Lewis, Head of Sales and Marketing at Aer Arann, comments: “We are extremely pleased to see an increase in travellers from the UK, and attribute this to the rising costs of hidden extras charged by competitor airlines, as well as growing awareness of a reduced carbon footprint to local destinations. We hope more people will take advantage of a great short-haul break in the second half of 2007 – our flights are intended to help travellers from the United Kingdom have safe and comfortable journeys to explore the real Ireland.”
