The CEO of the United Kingdom Business Unit and Deputy General Manager of Mapfre Asistencia, Gregorio R. Santos, has won the “UK Personality of the Year” award, presented by the prestigious International Travel Insurance Journal (ITIJ), a leading travel insurance publication. This award recognizes the manager who has been at the forefront of the UK travel insurance industry in the last 12 months, as well as their hard work and dedication to the industry.
Gregorio R. Santos has been Deputy General Manager of Mapfre Asistencia and CEO of the British Business Unit since 2008. In addition to these management positions, he was also General Manager of MAPFRE’s travel agency, VIAJES MAPFRE (from 2002 to 2005); and General Manager of the Tourism Division, until 2008. During this professional period, VIAJES MAPFRE was ranked among the 12 top travel agencies in Spain and opened delegations in five countries. The recently selected “UK Personality of the Year” has 20 years’ experience in the international tourist and insurance industry.
The nomination of the United Kingdom CEO presented by Mapfre Asistencia’s British Business Unit highlighted: “Gregorio R. Santos has not only played an essential role in boosting Mapfre Asistencia ’s success on the travel insurance market in the last year, but he was also the driving force who promoted and collaborated in the acquisition of the company Insureandgo, the UK leader in online sale of travel insurance”.
The award was announced on 11 May during the second edition of the ITIC Conference 2011, held in the British town of Windsor. In addition to Gregorio R. Santos, the other candidates for this award were: Linda Norman, Client Relationship Manager of One Group, and Greg Lawson, Commercial Director of Citybond Suretravel
