On Sunday, Feb. 6, an Air Jamaica A-321 will arrive at Iberia`s aircraft maintenance facilities in Madrid for a complete overhaul, under the agreement signed between the two companies last November.

The contract, initially for a single year, calls for Iberia to perform C` inspections on four of the Jamaican carrier`s A-320 type aircraft. These inspections entail the complete dismantling of the aircraft. Since November Iberia has already overhauled three aircraft for Air Jamaica. The third leaves the Iberia maintenance hangar this week.

Air Jamaica is one of several companies that have recently chosen Iberia Maintenance to inspect, maintain and repair their fleets. Others include Avianca, China Southern Airlines, Luxor Air, Triton Aviation Services, and Sosoliso Airlines.

Since its founding in 1927, Iberia has always maintained its own fleet at two industrial areas in Madrid with a total surface area of 2.5 million square meters, with seven hangars, workshops, parts warehouses, engine shops, and engine bench-testing facilities, among other installations.

Iberia`s Maintenance Division employs more than 4,000 people to maintain airframes, engines and components for Iberia itself and other client carriers. Iberia`s Maintenance Division is certified by civil aviation authorities in Spain (ACE), the European Union (JAA), and the United States (FAA), and recently earned ISO 9001-2000 certification from Spain`s official standards bureau AENOR for the quality of its operations, along with ISO UNE-EN ISO 14001:1996 for environmental protection management systems at its La Munoza facilities. In 2004, Iberia Maintenance inspected 997 aircraft, 122 engines, and 32,580 components.
