Lufthansa passengers benefit from new connections to Eastern Europe, Asia and the USA

Bratislava, Canton, Charlotte, Cracow, Danzig, Kuala Lumpur, Lille, Poznan, Tallinn and Tirana – those are the new destinations in the Lufthansa summer timetable 2004, which will be valid as of 28th March 2004. Lufthansa passengers can look forward not only to these new destinations, but also to the increased offers to numerous other destinations. Overall, Lufthansa passengers have a choice between 175 destinations in 75 countries. Together with the code-share flights of the partner airlines, as many as 344 destinations in 91 countries will be offered under Lufthansa flight numbers this summer.

According to the current state of planning, in comparison to the summer timetable 2003, in continental traffic there are indications of moderate growth in the lower single-figure percent range. The intercontinental traffic was seriously affected last year by the capacity reductions as a consequence of the Iraq war and the SARS crisis. As a result of the revival effects as well as the use of larger aircraft such as, for example, the A340-600, this summer in the intercontinental area there will be growth of around 18 percent.

Extended flight plan to Eastern Europe

As of this summer, Lufthansa passengers will benefit from a significantly extended programme of flights to Eastern Europe: with the start of the summer timetable, the connections between Frankfurt and Tallinn will be introduced (seven times a week) as well as from Munich to Cracow (14 times a week), Poznan (seven times a week) and Tirana (seven times a week). As of May, from Munich there will be a choice of seven weekly flights to Danzig as well as 13 flights per week to Bratislava in the Slovakian Republic. From Dusseldorf Lufthansa flies once a week to St. Petersburg.

Leading position in Asia will be extended

Starting with the summer timetable, Lufthansa passengers will be connected directly to the important market of India via the southern hub Munich: Lufthansa recently decided to introduce three weekly flights, conditional on approval, from Munich to Delhi. The previous five weekly flights from Munich to Shanghai had been extended to Canton as of 1st February and will be increased to seven flights per week.

The Malaysian capital of Kuala Lumpur can also be found in the Lufthansa timetable once again, a Lufthansa aircraft will already depart as of 17th March from Frankfurt via Bangkok to Kuala Lumpur, initially three times, later four times a week. The number of flights from Frankfurt to Bangkok will thus increase by four to fourteen weekly frequencies.

Compact route network in North and South America

Charlotte is a new destination in Lufthansa`s US route network. Flights will depart daily from Munich to the financial centre in North Carolina. For economic reasons, Lufthansa has already terminated the three weekly flights from Frankfurt to Phoenix as of 1st February. Via cooperation flights with the partner airlines, United Airlines and US Airways, the city in Arizona, however, continues to have good links with the global route network.

Following the successful resumption of flights from Frankfurt to Rio de Janeiro in October 2003, Lufthansa will continue to offer flights to the metropolis in the shadow of the Sugar Loaf throughout the summer. Seven times a week there will be flights from Frankfurt via Sao Paulo to Rio. Buenos Aires and Santiago de Chile are also included in the summer timetable with seven flights per week. Caracas, the fifth Lufthansa destination in South America, will be served six times per week.

Culture, sports and sunshine destinations in continental traffic

Travellers with an interest in culture can look forward to the new connections with Lille. The city in Northern France has been selected as the European Capital of Culture 2004. Lufthansa will be flying to Lille thirteen times a week from Munich. In the European traffic passengers will also benefit, above all, from new connections on decentral routes. For the Olympic Games, seven flights a week will be included in the timetable between Dusseldorf and Athens.

The previous two weekly flights from Dusseldorf to Nice will be increased to five, Palma de Mallorca (five times a week) as well as Rome (seven times a week) are new additions to the summer timetable from Dusseldorf. There will be three flights a week from Stuttgart to Dublin, four flights a week to Malta, Venice and Bilbao as well as five flights a week to Palma de Mallorca. From Hamburg, two new flights per week will be offered to Palma de Mallorca.
