Prague<.>, the picturesque medieval capital of the Czech Republic, is the new hot travel destination for Greeks. One example of the floods of visitors flying there was over the recent Christmas holidays when a record of over 1,936 people flew on a dozen of flights during a three day period. The previous year 1,198 made the trip on nine flights in one day.

Some 90% of all the travelers explore the city Prague and environs as well as the nearly famed health spas, and 10% include visits to Vienna, Budapest and Berlin on their itinerary.

Overall increase for the past year recorded by Discover<.> the World Marketing, GSA for CSA Czech Airlines in Greece, was an impressive 30%. This despite the Kosovo crisis and the earthquake (of September 7) in Athens.

Previous to the outbreak of the bombing in Kosovo, there had been an incredible 64% increase in tourist traffic for the January-March period. CSA revenue in Greece for October 1999 on this routing was up over 30%, reaching 119 million drachmas double the record of the previous year.

CSA Czech Airlines, which started operations in 1924 with an initial flight of a bag of mail and one passenger, inaugurated service between Prague and Athens in April of 1947.

As of the beginning of this year the airline is operating an all-Boeing and Airbus service, operating to some 55 cities around the world.
