The Association of Corporate Travel Executives (ACTE) and the Hotel Association of Canada (HAC) have joined forces to provide travel professionals with a new tool in supporting greener hotel programs.

This new collaborative agreement will enable ACTE members to access HAC`s Green Key Program — a graduated rating system designed to recognize hotels, motels, and resorts that are committed to improving their environmental performance.

ACTE is pleased to continue with its tradition to provide innovative tools to the industry, including useful tools to support green industry programs, said the association`s Executive Director Susan Gurley.

There is increased pressure from the board room for corporate travel managers to use environmentally-sensitive hotels on a global basis and we are encouraged that HAC`s Green Key program identifies green hotel properties throughout Canada. This tool will be a big plus for our Canadian members, and all ACTE members with travel in Canada.

This collaborative effort extends beyond the Green Key Program, however. According to Gurley, it links the organizations through a sharing of information, while providing new tools, additional education, and greater value for our respective memberships. For ACTE members, it also serves as a tie-in to HAC`s Third Annual Canadian Travel Intention Study.

Tony Pollard, HAC`s President, introduced both the Green Key Program and the Canadian Travel Intention Study at the ACTE PowerTalk in Ottawa, on 12 June. Pollard`s presentation also included an analysis of current hotel trends and demands in Canada.

Our two associations have a lot to offer each other, said Tony Pollard. This agreement will foster a stronger understanding of new issues confronting the hospitality industry in Canada, while providing ACTE members with a new resource.
