At the American Society of Travel Agents’ (ASTA) International Destination Expo (IDE) in Prague, ASTA President and CEO Kathryn W. Sudeikis, CTC, met with The Honorable Morris M. Dzoro, M.P., Kenya’s Minister for Tourism and Wildlife. ASTA has pledged to work with the Kenyan government to promote tourism to the country as well as to the whole of Africa.

International tourism is key for Kenya. As Americans learn more about the destination, an increasing number of U.S. travelers are expressing interest in experiencing all Kenya has to offer, from the culture of Nairobi to the natural beauty of the Amboseli National Park, said ASTA President and CEO Kathryn W. Sudeikis, CTC. ASTA travel agents can help make these travelers’ dreams a reality while also bringing increased market share to the country when working in partnership with Kenya and its tourism sector.

In 2004, the United States was Kenya’s third largest inbound tourism market, behind the United Kingdom and Germany, respectively. Going forward, ASTA will work with Kenya to promote tourism through a variety of venues, including but not limited to helping the Kenyan tourism sector identify and partner with ASTA agents who specialize in such niches as Kenya, Africa, safari and eco- and adventure travel.

ASTA also will be working with the Ministry for Tourism and Wildlife to develop and promote a joint ASTA-Kenya FAM trip to help education travel agents on the destination so they can better sell it to their clients and in the development of the Africa Pavilion at the Travel and Retailing Destination Expo (THETRADESHOW), which will be held in Orlando on Sept. 10-13, 2006.
