Emirates has introduced a certification programme in purchasing and supply management for its UAE national management employees.
The modular programme was customised for Emirates by the UK`s Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS) working with Human Resources` National Development programmes section and the Procurement & Logistics department.
Inaugurating the programme, Dermot Mannion, Emirates` President Group Support Services remarked: Purchasing has always played a vital role within the Emirates Group. In the present climate of fuel price hikes and the resultant impact it has on organisations and costs, the contribution of effective purchasing becomes crucial. I am extremely confident that this programme will be of great benefit to Emirates` purchasing professionals.
The course, attended by 15 UAE national employees, including managers, started with a week-long training module and will be supplemented with projects and assignments throughout the course period, which will culminate with a final training module in July 2005.
Richard Ludlow, CIPS Key Account Manager to Emirates, said: During this programme, students will not only acquire knowledge and understanding but will experience practical and `live` application to their own working environment.
This process not only introduces them to world-class techniques in purchasing and supply management but also to sophisticated management tools and processes. Throughout the programme there will be an exacting assessment regime through a mixture of projects, assignments and written assessments.
The introduction of the course is part of Emirates` commitment to the career development of UAE nationals within the company. Fahad Al Hassawi, Emirates` Vice President Human Resources (Employee Services), said: The investment made is crucial from a national development perspective. It is in line with our overall approach to institutionalise professional certification and qualifications for UAE nationals.
