Mohamed Farouk receives AFASU Golden Award for Excellence in Tourism Technology

Mr. Mohamed Farouk, Chairman of the Electronic Tourism Committee, has been honored with the prestigious AFASU Golden Award for Excellence and Development in tourism and travel technology. Mr. Mohamed Farouk, an expert in tourism technology and Chairman of the Electronic Tourism Committee at the Chamber of Tourism Companies, has been honored with the prestigious AFASU Golden Award for Excellence and Development in the field of tourism and travel technology for 2023/2024 by the Afro-Asian Union (AFASU).

The award ceremony and press conference took place on the evening of Wednesday, June 21, at a hotel in Cairo. Mr. Mohamed Farouk received the AFASU Golden Award in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the advancement of tourism and travel technology in 2023/2024. This award represents the culmination of his twenty years of dedicated work in the tourism and electronic tourism sectors.

Expressing his immense delight upon receiving the AFASU Golden Award for Excellence and Development in tourism and travel technology for 2023/2024, Mr. Mohamed Farouk emphasized his continuous efforts to enhance the tourism technology system and his unwavering commitment to excellence and progress. He acknowledged his talented team of young professionals within his organization, attributing the success and achievement to their diligent efforts.

The event was attended by officials from the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, as well as distinguished guests including ambassadors from African and Asian countries, renowned figures and experts in tourism and hospitality from Egypt and Arab countries, Egyptian media personnel, foreign correspondents, and members of the Afro-Asian Union (AFASU).

Dr. Hossam Darwish, President of the Afro-Asian Union (AFASU), explained that AFASU is an international union with offices and members in numerous Afro-Asian countries. It originated from the Afro-Asian People’s Solidarity Organization, which was conceived at the Bandung Conference in Indonesia under the name of the Non-Aligned Movement, led by the three leaders Nasser, Tito, and Nehru. Currently, AFASU consists of 90 African and Asian countries and holds memberships in the United Nations, World Trade Organization, UNCTAD, Arab League, and the African Union.

The AFASU Golden Award was established by the parent organization to foster a culture of excellence, improve performance, boost the morale of high achievers, and create a fair competition framework among different entities to elevate their performance. It aims to provide young people with role models and empower excellence across all sectors, making it a way of life and work through which the desired concepts of quality in practical, individual, and institutional performance can be achieved.

One of the key objectives of the award is to support creativity, excellence, innovation, and leadership in the field of tourism and travel technology. Mr. Mohamed Farouk and his institution have met all the objectives and criteria of the award. He is recognized as one of the pioneers in tourism technology, having served his country extensively as Chairman of the Electronic Tourism Committee at the Chamber of Tourism Companies. He has always been willing to share his knowledge and expertise with other companies, never viewing them as competitors. The award committee, composed of the executive council of AFASU, unanimously agreed that he deserved the award and acknowledged him as a trailblazer in utilizing technology to enhance the tourism system, employing all the tools of modern technology.

Dr. Adel Al-Muslimani, the Executive President of the Union, added that AFASU, alongside its global incentivizing awards for achievers, role models, and youth, has introduced the AFASU Gold Awards in various sectors. These awards are presented biennially and adhere to carefully formulated rules and conditions. Specialized judging committees oversee the competition categories, and internal systems and criteria govern the awards, ensuring the inclusion of creative work elements and meeting award requirements. Feedback from relevant entities involved in the award is actively considered, reflecting its significance to the entire Afro-Asian community. Despite some variations in award conditions from one sector to another, they all share the common goal of recognizing individuals who have made genuine developments and demonstrated exceptional talent by upholding principles of efficiency, transparency, and objective criteria in nominations.

Mr. Enan Al-Jalali, the Honorary President of the Union and the Head of the Sustainable Development Sector, stated that he has known Mr. Mohammed Farouk for a long time and is well aware of his constant dedication to innovation and keeping up with the latest advancements in tourism technology worldwide. The AFASU Gold Award for Excellence and Development in tourism and travel technology was specifically designed to encourage creative individuals, pioneers, innovators, and technology users to enhance the tourism sector and honor those who utilize technology for its development. Mr. Mohammed Farouk is among the pioneers and owners of private sector companies that have made significant advancements in the field of tourism technology. The award is not limited to the private sector; it can also be granted to organizations, institutions, government entities, private sector companies, and startups that develop initiatives aimed at harnessing modern technology to provide innovative solutions to global challenges and explore new opportunities for a better future.

Finally, Major General Hossam Badr Al-Din, the Deputy Executive President of the Union, emphasized the African-Asian Union’s commitment to maintaining neutrality and transparency in adjudicating the “AFASU Gold Award,” following scientific and objective principles. The award has earned a strong reputation and high credibility since its inception, thanks to the precision of the nomination process, the rigor of the judging criteria, and the integrity demonstrated by the coordinators and members of the judging committees. Furthermore, the award is completely free, without any financial obligations, as its sole purpose is to support creators, achievers, role models, and youth. Several honorary guests and experts in tourism and sustainable development spoke at the ceremony, emphasizing the importance of highlighting and honoring outstanding individuals in all fields to serve as role models for the youth and inspire future generations. Recognizing and honoring recipients also contributes to boosting their morale.
