New chair for the Association of Canadian Travel Agencies

ACTA announced that the Board of Directors elected Michael Merrithew as the new Chair at its meeting of May 13 in Halifax. He replaces outgoing Chair, Richard Vanderlubbe of Tripcentral.ca.



Michael was already Vice-Chair of ACTA and Chair of ACTA Ontario regional council and is also Director of the Travel Industry Council of Ontario (TICO) and the Canadian Corporate Travel Association (CCTA).



Michael is the President, CEO & Co-Owner of Toronto-based Merit Travel Holdings. Merit is a multi-specialty travel solutions provider and currently owns operates Merit Loyalty Group (operator for CIBC Gold Visa Rewards Travel, CIBC Aventura Gold Travel, 50Plus/CARP Travel & AlumniTravel.ca), Merit Odyssey – a growing retail network, Merit Travel Group (Corporate Travel Management), Rocky Mountain Ski Tours, Exclusive Tours & Merit Golf & Ski Vacations. Merit employs over 260 travel professionals across Canada with offices in Montreal, Kingston, Brockville, Gananoque, London, Toronto, Mississauga, Newmarket, Vancouver and Victoria.



Richard Vanderlubbe will remain with the Board as Vice-Chair. ACTA would like to thank Richard for serving as Chair for the past two years and for his continuous involvement with the association.



The year 2005 will find ACTA focusing its efforts on one of our key long-term goals: making sure that consumers understand the value proposition in securing the services of a travel professional. I am pleased to lead the way and help shape this effort with colleagues and staff as we pursue this priority together with other strategic objectives outlined in our three-year strategy and work plan for the year commented new ACTA Chair, Michael Merrithew.
