The American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA) announced the winners of the 2006 Chairman’s Cup awards at the board of directors meeting at The Brown Palace in Denver, Colo. The awards recognize AH&LA partner state associations that have the most significant increase in membership development and retention programs.

Based on dues, the following awards were given to states that had the greatest increase in percentage of properties, rooms, and market penetration:

  1. The Alabama Hotel Association (AHA) received the award for the greatest increase in percentage of properties and rooms in the $0–$49,999 dues category, as well as the greatest improvement in market penetration by room in the over 25,000 rooms category.

  2. The New Mexico Lodging Association (NMLA) received the award for the greatest increase in percentage of properties and rooms in the $50,000–$99,999 dues category.

  3. The New York State Hospitality & Tourism Association (NYSHTA) received the award for the greatest increase in percentage of properties for the $100,000+ dues category.

  4. The Nevada Hotel & Lodging Association (NH&LA) received the award for the greatest increase in percentage of rooms in the $100,000+ dues category.

  5. The Montana Innkeepers Association (MIA) received the award for the greatest improvement in market penetration by property and room in the under 25,000 rooms category.

  6. The Washington State Hotel & Lodging Association (WSH&LA) received the award for the greatest improvement in market penetration by property in the over 25,000 rooms category.

  7. The Alaska Hotel & Lodging Association (AHA) received the award for the greatest market penetration in the under 25,000 rooms category.

  8. The Hawai`i Hotel & Lodging Association (HH&LA) received the award for the greatest market penetration in the over 25,000 rooms category.

In 2004, the overall performance award category was created to honor states with the greatest increase in new membership. This year’s winner is the Texas Hotel & Lodging Association (TH&LA). In addition, a perennial membership excellence award category was created this year to honor the Hotel Association of Washington, D.C. (HAWDC), a six-time winner of the greatest market penetration award.

“These 10 partner state associations are recognized for their tremendous efforts in increasing membership in their states and thus, AH&LA,” said Pam Inman, AH&LA executive vice president of member and industry relations. “Increasing membership allows AH&LA and the partner state associations to be a more representative voice for the industry.”
