The HAC applauds BC decision to eliminate aviation fuel tax

The Hotel Association of Canada congratulates the British Columbia Government for its decision to eliminate the provincial jet fuel tax on international flights.

“Canada is a “fly-to” destination and price competiveness is vital to attracting visitors,” said Tony Pollard, President HAC. “The cost of flying to and from Canada must be comparable to, or less than, other competing destinations.”

According to the World Economic Forum Canada ranks 125th in the world for the competitiveness of our aviation cost structure. Today’s decision by the BC Government will contribute to the reduction of the very high aviation cost structure in Canada.

The HAC has long advocated for the elimination of aviation fuel taxes and welcomes this important initiative which will spur on economic growth and needs to be emulated in other jurisdictions.
