US Airways to add Antigua service from Philadelphia

US Airways<.> will add its fourteenth Caribbean destination from Philadelphia with the introduction of Saturday nonstop Antigua service on December 8, 2001, subject to Antigua government approval.



The new flight will depart from Philadelphia at 10 a.m., and will arrive in Antigua at 3:20 p.m. From Antigua, the flight will depart at 4:35 p.m., and will arrive in Philadelphia at 8:15 p.m. US Airways will operate the service with its modern 142-seat Airbus A320 aircraft.



This fascinating island setting, with its warm steady winds, dramatic coastal reefs and hundreds of powder-sand beaches, makes Antigua an ideal destination for travelers who enjoy outdoor activities, said Gregory T. Taylor, US Airways senior vice president of planning.



Taylor added that the new service from US Airways` Philadelphia hub, where the airline operates more than 400 daily departures, brings customers originating in the U.S. and Canada another choice for travel to the Caribbean. With the new nonstop service, Antiguans will be able to visit both Philadelphia and more than 70 other cities on the US Airways route network, said Taylor.



Antigua and Barbuda is gearing up for a bumper season, and with US Airways` new service, travelers from across North America will experience the allure of this exciting vacation destination, said Antigua and Barbuda Minister of Tourism and Environment Honorable Molwyn M. Joseph. Antigua is an island full of romance and fascination brought about by a rich history, flourishing culture and gracious residents, which make it an ideal destination for couples and families alike.



US Airways` Caribbean destinations from Philadelphia are Aruba, Bermuda, Cancun, Grand Cayman, Montego Bay, Nassau, Santo Domingo, San Juan, St. Thomas, St. Croix, and St. Maarten. Subject to government approval, US Airways will begin service to Barbados on November 3, 2001, and St. Lucia on Dec. 15, 2001, both from Philadelphia.



In addition to Philadelphia, US Airways serves the Caribbean from Baltimore Washington International (BWI), Charlotte, N.C., New York (La Guardia), and Pittsburgh. US Airways Express serves Marsh Harbour, Treasure Cay, North Eleuthera, and Governors Harbour from Florida. US Airways will start Charlotte-Aruba service on November 10, 2001, and Charlotte-Cozumel service on January 12, 2002, both subject to government approval.



Besides the 15 Caribbean destinations currently on the US Airways and US Airways Express system, US Airways, the US Airways Express carriers, US Airways Shuttle, and MetroJet fly to 188 destinations worldwide, including 38 states in the U.S., and the Canadian destinations of Toronto, Montreal, and Ottawa.
