Top three nightlife hotspots in New Zealand

Depending on the city you’re in, there’s a great selection of bars for a nice night out with local specials. Restaurants are popular too, and more often than not, many of them turn into dancefloors as the nights progresses.

While New Zealand isn’t thought as the nightlife capital of the world, it still has plenty of great clubs, bars, and luxury resorts where you can enjoy a night out. As a matter of fact, the small island nation is a place to be for night owls that enjoy a beer in a great quiet bar rather than loud music in clubs. At the same time, there are numerous luxury hotel and casino resorts where you can enjoy a night of wine and dine prepared by top chefs.

Depending on the city you’re in, there’s a great selection of bars for a nice night out with local specials. Restaurants are popular too, and more often than not, many of them turn into dancefloors as the nights progresses.

While it’s tough to select only 3 nightlife hotspots in New Zealand we can recommend, we’ve chosen a few worth giving a look.

O.G.B.
Located in Christchurch, O.G.B. was voted the city’s best bar in 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020. It’s a cool speakeasy bar situated in Christchurch’s most beautiful heritage building. O.G.B. is a spectacular looking bar that offers a great collection of specially crafted foods and drinks along with live music.

If you’re ever in Christchurch and want a night out with friends in a cool place with great selection of beer, O.G.B. is a great choice. The food menu is constantly changing so there’s always a delicious fresh idea you can find. Cocktail specials are also on offer, giving you fresh cocktails that go beyond simple mojitos.

Being a cosy speakeasy bar, O.G.B. has a fantastic collection of beers on tap and in a bottle. Make sure to give the menu an extensive look and you’ll surely find something to enjoy.

The Grand by SkyCity
If you’re looking for a more expensive night out in a luxury setting, The Grand is located in the entertainment SkyCity complex. All the buildings are situated in Auckland’s iconic Sky Tower offering more than 20 restaurants, bars, cafes, and a 24-hour casino. You can try the latest casino games here and with a bit of luck win a nice sum that you’ll spend in the lavish restaurants.

In terms of wine and dine, there’s something for every pocket. You can find cheaper restaurants or expensive cuisines where you can eat special meals created by the top chefs in the country.

The Library
While The Library is not a name one would clearly associate with foods and drinks, this is the top nightlife hotspot in Wellington. It lives up to its name with book-lined walls and bookshelves all over, giving the impression that you’re in a rich library. The Library is known for its great menu that features tapas and special deserts.

When it comes to drinks, locals recommend going for the house specials. Those are mixed drinks and cocktails crafted by The Library’s innovative cocktail specialists that everyone would enjoy.

Or you can go for beer on tap, wine, or a glass of whiskey on the rocks. The Library has all kinds of “books” on offer.
