KITF 2002 is to promote Kazakhstan`s tourism image

The 2nd Kazakhstan International Tourism and Travel Exhibition KITF 2002 was held in Almaty on 25-27 April. Its objective was to form and promote Kazakhstan`s tourism image, to encourage local and foreign tourism, and to support and assist in the development of national tourism agencies.

The main sections of KITF 2002 are represented by airlines and air companies, activity and adventure tourism agencies, hotels, resorts, visits to museums, parks, sight-seeing tours, national tourist organisations, educational, environmental or sports tourism, insurance and banking services, transportation agencies, tourist agents, tourist operators and others. Nearly 60 companies from 18 countries participated in the exhibition: General Travel (Russia), Golden Ring Tourism, Royal Park Tourism – Dubai (UAE), Discover France (France), CTS Consul Travel Service (Turkey), VV Bohemia, Service Bristol Tour s.r.o. (Czech Republic), Thompson`s South Africa, Golden Route Africa (SAR), Iscra Moscow (Italy), Agence Paris Alpes (France), UTA (Malta), Euro-Express/Euro Seminar (Germany), Together in S.E. Asia (Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia) and many others. The number of exhibitors increased by 30% compared to the last year`s figure. This caused the exhibition to be expanded twice. The organisers expect no less than 8,000 visitors from Kazakhstan`s regions and neighbouring countries. Within the framework of KITF`2002 the companies have arranged their presentations. The participants may exchange their opinions and recommendations at the round-table entitled The Quality of Advertising of Kazakhstan`s Tourism Potential.

Official support and organisation of the exhibition were provided by the Agency for Tourism and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan together with International Exhibition Company ITE Group Plc (UK) and Iteca LLP, its Kazakhstani partner.

Today tourism is one of the major, high-profitable and fast growing industries of the global economy.

According to the Statistics Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan, in 2001 Kazakhstan`s national tourism accounted for 73.8% while foreign tourism and entry tourism were 24.6% and 1.6% respectively. At present, 391 Kazakhstani tourist agencies hold general licenses for tourism business in Kazakhstan. More than 92% of the market is made up from small-sized businesses, that generated KZT 1,290.1 million and USD 963,900 (92.3% out of the total revenues received by the Republic of Kazakhstan from tourist agencies) in 2001.

49.6% of tourists arrive in Kazakhstan on business trips, 47.9% seek to improve their health and have a rest, 0.9% come to visit relatives and friends, 0.5% travel to the republic for religious and pilgrimage purposes, and 1.1% come with other purposes….
