JOHANNESBURG – As the on-going taxi strike continues to disrupt travel in Cape Town, the Southern African Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association (SAVRALA) emphasizes the need for a swift and effective resolution. Whilst there seems to be calm in previous hotspot areas, the prolonged strike action threatens Cape Town’s reputation as world-class city as well as South Africa as a tourist destination of choice.
Sandile Ntseoane, SAVRALA’s General Manager, expresses deep concern. “Our members play a crucial role in the tourism ecosystem. The disruptions from the taxi strike impact their livelihoods and have broader consequences for the local community, tourism sector and South Africa’s economy.
Last week, two of our members reported vehicle damage, highlighting the strike’s significant effect on essential assets supporting our members’ livelihoods.
“We empathize with those affected by the strike and understand the importance of a sustainable solution that addresses concerns for all parties concerned,” Ntseoane states.
SAVRALA strongly condemns violence, emphasising peaceful dialogue and negotiation as vital to finding a resolution and safeguarding both the taxi industry and broader community’s interests.
