, a leading discount travel site, announced the results of the June 2012 Hotwire Canadian Hotel Rate Report, which features the top five cities in Canada where hotel rates have dropped the most. When combined with Hotwire’s already discounted prices, the Hotel Rate Report helps guide customers to the destinations that can maximize their travel dollars.

On the list for the fourth consecutive month, Winnipeg ranks number one with a fourteen percent price drop. Located at the geographical centre of North America, Winnipeg has blossomed over the past decade into a diverse destination. Complete with a rich culture and arts scene, globally inspired cuisines and exciting attractions, Winnipeg has something unique to satisfy various types of travellers.

Following Winnipeg are two of Canada’s best leisure cities. Whistler joins the list for the first time this year and Victoria reappears after a one month absence with four and five percent price drops, respectively. Although it’s shoulder season in Whistler, natural beauty and outdoor activities abound as consumers can golf, hike or relax at one of its famous Scandinavian spas. Along with breathtaking landscapes, travellers can also visit the 2010 Olympics venues, ride ATVs and explore the Blackcomb and Whistler Mountains via the PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola.

For folks seeking a bit of "Old England," Victoria offers winding, narrow streets and beautiful gardens for a lovely, picturesque vacation. There are great deals to be had in this city due to increased travel costs to get there, which may be affecting demand. Being a popular market that people drive to, the higher gas prices are keeping travellers at bay. Victoria is likely to remain a value destination. Lastly, Banff reappears for the fifth consecutive month with a one percent drop and Montreal makes a welcome return after a two month absence. Both of these cities offer a slew of summer activities such as horseback riding, golfing and hiking, as well as a thriving nightlife for travellers seeking a well-rounded, idyllic vacation.

Hotwire is able to find great deals because it works with hotels, airlines and car rental companies to fill unsold inventory. This means customers can find incredibly low deals on Hotwire, especially in cities like those on the Hotel Rate Report where prices are unseasonably low.

"This month’s value destinations are a great mix for any leisure traveller," said Pierre-Etienne Chartier, vice president of the Hotwire Group. "Whistler is a city that we haven’t seen on the list all year and we encourage folks to take advantage of the low rates here, and in all the cities on the list, now before prices inevitably increase around mid-July."
