Interhome has founded a subsidiary company in Russia, heralding the accommodation provider’s entry into one of the world`s most dynamic and travel markets. Interhome has joined forces with its Russian agent Worldhome, to launch Interhome Russia, the latest move by the holiday home rental specialist in its expansion into Eastern Europe.

CEO Simon Lehmann said of the new venture: “Russia is currently one of the world`s strongest growth source markets, and is likely to remain so in the foreseeable future. Together with Worldhome we recorded growth in turnover last year in excess of 50% so it is only logical that we should expand in this direction. We are starting up our operation in Moscow with a young and dynamic team of 10 people.”

Lehmann believes the time is right for the Russian launch. With its 144 million population and personal wealth increasing for many Russians, the country has vast potential. The most popular destinations among Russians in the holiday home sector include Switzerland (the Valais and Graubunden), France (the Chamonix region and Cote d`Azur), Spain (Costa del Sol) as well as Austria (the Salzburgerland and Tirol).

In Russia Interhome will be targeting the growing breed of wealthy consumers, with a focus on accommodation in the premium sector. For the first year Interhome is aiming for some 7000 guests and turnover of CHF 2.2 million (US$ 1.8 million). Interhome Russia`s products will be on offer in some 40 selected travel agencies as well as via the Internet and call centres. Lehmann predicts that 40% of turnover will be achieved through retailers and 60% through direct sales (of which 50% will be online bookings). Interhome Russia will be managed by Gennadiy Kozachok, who was previously owner and manager of Worldhome.

Interhome already has its own subsidiaries in Poland and the Czech Republic, with further growth planned in both countries, as well as in Slovakia. In addition, the group is currently considering entering further markets in Eastern Europe and is also assessing China, India and Israel as potential avenues.
