Kicking Horse Mountain Resort new master plan approved

Kicking Horse Mountain Resort, located in the Canadian Rockies of British Columbia, has announced the approval of a 40-year development set to make the resort a world class ski destination. Plans include an expanded controlled recreation area, 20,000 bed units, an 18-hole signature golf course, a multi-use trail system with 11 proposed lifts and 4,188 acres of skiable terrain.

Kicking Horse Mountain Resort (KHMR) is one of the first new resort projects built in Canada in the past 25-years. Since inception in December 2000, KHMR has invested over $CAD100M and has stimulated an additional $CAD100M of investment from third party developers totalling of over $CAD200M invested in the local economy to date.

After the lighting of the Olympic Torch in the town of Golden, British Columbia Premier Gordon Campbell attended a ceremony at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort where he announced the approval of the New Master Plan for the resort.

“At the Provincial level we have now approved Kicking Horse’s Master Plan,” stated Premier Campbell as he addressed the crowd at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort during the Run of the Fire Torchlight Parade held as part of the Olympic Torch celebrations in Golden. “It opens up enormous opportunities; an opportunity to build tourism, to build this resort and to let it take the next step forward,” continued Campbell.

“This is an exciting time for Golden, Kicking Horse Country and Kicking Horse Mountain Resort” says Steve Paccagnan, President and CEO of Kicking Horse Mountain. “Kicking Horse Mountain Resort has the natural assets to be one of the finest mountain resorts in North America. With this news we are excited to enter our next decade continuing to be a major economic contributor to our community and playing a key role in supporting the province`s goal of doubling tourism by 2015".

Kicking Horse Mountain Resort has enjoyed steady growth since inception supported by the evolution of the entire region due to the effort and cooperation of all levels of government. This evolution includes the significant Trans Canada highway improvement project in the Kicking Horse Canyon, the Town of Golden’s Official Community Plan, and now the provincial approval of the new Master Plan for Kicking Horse Mountain Resort.

Kicking Horse Mountain Resort is approximately 2.5 hours west of Calgary on the Trans Canada Highway.
