Loews Portofino Bay Hotel at Universal Orlando completes massive $22m., Italian-Inspired renovation

The hotel now offers the world’s first and only Despicable Me-inspired hotel suites.

ORLANDO, FLA. – The most extensive and luxurious renovation in the history of Loews Portofino Bay Hotel at Universal Orlando is now complete. From the artistic facade of the buildings to its 750 guest rooms and suites, the new look reflects the upscale, sun-drenched resort of Portofino, Italy and its historic harbor along the Italian Riviera.

“Our new look is all-at-once refreshing and relaxing,” says General Manager Diane Petit. “We made a commitment to enhance the overall aesthetic – both inside and outside – of this stunning property and its imaginative setting here at Universal Orlando Resort.”

Guest room designs celebrate the charm, romance and glamour of Portofino, Italy’s grand vacation villas and hotels. The palette of soft neutral cream colors is paired with sun-baked shades of aqua, complemented by rich, terra cotta-colored marble and custom-designed, white-washed furnishings. Guest rooms were completely renovated from top to bottom, with all-new furnishings, beds, window treatments and artwork.

In addition, the hotel now offers the world’s first and only Despicable Me-inspired hotel suites. These two-room suites bring to life the excitement and playfulness of Gru’s house, featuring missile beds and Minions, who rappel from the ceiling and surround guests with their unpredictable antics.

Outside, the trompe l’oeil on the hotel’s artistic facade has been completely refurbished in exquisite detail. Artists used the elaborate painting technique – trompe l’oeil – intended to trick the eye, as they hand-painted hundreds of thousands of square feet on the hotel’s exterior.

Loews Portofino Bay Hotel is a re-creation of the quaint Ligurian seaside village of Portofino, Italy that has evolved into a favorite vacation destination for the rich and famous. As the first on-site hotel at Universal Orlando Resort, it features cobblestone piazzas, outdoor cafes and a nightly musical show. Hotel guests enjoy three themed swimming pools, seven restaurants and lounges, complimentary Wi-Fi, a world-class spa and an exclusive package of theme park benefits including Early Park Admission to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal’s Islands of Adventure and complimentary Universal Express Unlimited ride access, allowing guests to skip the regular theme park lines all day.
