Marriott scores with opening of London Marriott Hotel Twickenham

Marriott International has opened the 156-room London Marriott Hotel Twickenham under a management agreement with Rugby Football Union. The hotel sits at Twickenham Stadium, the home of English rugby. The general manager is Paul Davies. Giles Nash is the director of sales and marketing. The hotel is currently offering a special introductory rate of ?125 ($183 USD) per night.

The London Marriott Hotel Twickenham is part of Twickenham Stadium’s South Stand development.  Located just six miles from Heathrow Airport, the hotel is accessible by Twickenham railway station and just 20 minutes from central London by car.  In addition, the hotel is located near many favorite local attractions including Hampton Court Palace, Kew Gardens and the River Thames.

“We are thrilled and proud to open this new hotel at the home of English rugby," said Jurgen Giesbert, executive vice-president for Marriott’s United Kingdom, Middle East and Africa region. “Twickenham Stadium is iconic and we are proud that Marriott is part of its development. We hope this hotel helps to further the United Kingdom as the premier destination for business and sport, and look forward to welcoming rugby fans from around the world.”

The London Marriott Hotel Twickenham boasts luxurious interior design incorporating granite, wood, glass and steel for a warm, yet contemporary look and feel. The hotel’s 156 guest rooms feature luxurious 300 thread-count bedding and 32-inch flat screen televisions featuring Setanta and Sky Sports programming.  Six very special “pitch view” suites feature incredible views of the stadium and rugby pitch and offer separate bedroom, bathroom and private sitting room, together with access to a private balcony in Twickenham’s South Stand.  In addition, two large junior suites and four superior suites are located in the corners of the hotel, offering panoramic views across to the historic town of Richmond Upon Thames and London beyond. All suites boast spacious sitting areas and separate bedroom and bathroom.

The hotel’s signature restaurant 22 South Chop House is named after the 22 meter drop line on the rugby pitch.  The menu is influenced by British cuisine and uses locally sourced ingredients such as Cornish grain-fed beef.  In addition, guests can enjoy a cup of coffee in the hotel’s Cafe Lounge or wind-down while watching the game on the giant plasma televisions in the stylish Side Step Bar.

Once opened in Fall 2009, guests will be able to take a leisurely swim or workout in the flagship Virgin Active Classic Health Club attached to the hotel.

As part of the hotel’s partnership with Twickenham Experience, meeting and event planners can book space in the extensive meeting and conference facilities in the South Stand of the stadium. The Twickenham Stadium’s Rose Suite can seat up to 800 guests. The London Marriott Hotel Twickenham, along with over 2,800 Marriott-affiliated hotels worldwide, participates in Marriott Rewards, the guest reward program that allows members to earn their choice of points or airline miles for every dollar spent during each stay.
