Trident Hotel and Trident Castle launch in vibrant Port Antonio, "the other Jamaica"

Led by music veteran and hotelier Jon Baker, partner and co-owner, Steve Beaver, and billionaire businessman and Port Antonio native Michael Lee-Chin, the project is ushering in a rebirth of Port Antonio.

The first two projects to debut from the newly formed Geejam Collection is the stunning oceanfront 13-villa Trident Hotel and the landmark Trident Castle that has been converted into a luxury eight-room hotel, opening April 15, 2013. Led by music veteran and hotelier Jon Baker, partner and co-owner, Steve Beaver, and billionaire businessman and Port Antonio native Michael Lee-Chin, the project is ushering in a rebirth of Port Antonio, which has a rich history of tourism, is the origin of Jerk, and a glamorous Hollywood past (Errol Flynn and the Rat Pack were regulars). Continuing the momentum begun by Geejam Hotel and recording studio (Drake, No Doubt, Alicia Keys, Bjork, Santigold, and Snoop have all stayed/recorded there), the collection will further establish Port Antonio as the new IT spot in the Caribbean.

Trident Hotel Epitomizing laid-back luxury and quintessential cool, the Trident Hotel was once the epicenter for the 1960’s Hollywood jetset and features 13 spacious studio, one- and, two-bedroom villas with private, heated plunge pools and terraces. The Trident was renovated but maintains its original Jamaican-Georgian exteriors. Stylish retro artwork and accents lend to the hotel’s hip yet unpretentious atmosphere. The main 80-seat restaurant, Mike’s Supper Club, takes cues from Harlem style of years past and the menu is from NYC Jamaican hotspot, Spur Tree featuring Jamaican and Japanese cuisine. The Time Bar and Explorer’s Lounge has the largest selection of rare cognacs and Cuban rums in Jamaica with a signature cocktail menu from the team at Angel’s Share in New York City. There’s an infinity swimming pool; screening room/art gallery; boutique; gym with a Jacuzzi, yoga deck and spa treatment room; library; indoor and outdoor dining; two indoor bars and its own private beach and beach bar. Villa amenities include outdoor soaking tubs, steam rooms, wet bars, and sleek modern interiors complete with flat screen Apple TVs and WiFi.

Trident Castle The Castle’s faded glamour charm still reigns on this sprawling seven-acre oceanfront estate with much of the original furnishings and interiors kept in tact, creating a unique retro-chic ambiance. Built as a private residence by architect Earl Levy beginning in 1979, The Castle has become a symbolic landmark of Port Antonio’s history. The eight bedrooms feature en suite bathrooms, and modern amenities including five hundred-count sheets, compact digital surround sound system, Apple TVs, mini-bar and WiFi. The grand public rooms include an opulent ballroom and banquet hall, an elegant drawing room, adjoining sunrooms and a state-of-the-art photography studio. The property also houses a Romanesque swimming pool with deck overlooking the ocean, helicopter pad and a petite private chapel arranged among its expansive lawns and terraces.
