The City of Tshwane will showcase its commitment to tourism investment at this year`s Indaba when it introduces new and award winning attractions set to intrigue the curiosity of delegates.

The much anticipated attraction, Freedom Park, will be promoted alongside some of the city`s other major tourist attractions in its Siyaya e City of Tshwane Tourism Campaign, launched towards the end of last year. This campaign is aimed at creating a greater awareness of the city`s significant number of attractions. Also represented at the City of Tshwane stand will be the award winning tourism products named at the Tshwane Tourism Awards held in March this year.

An international convention centre, five star hotels and an international sporting venue are among the city`s visitor magnets earmarked for construction in the near future. Certain to be a topic of fervent discussion, these developments will form part of the city`s broader strategy to attract an influx of outside investment into the city. Tourism is seen as a key driver in this process and instrumental to the achievement of the city`s economic objectives.

To assist Tshwane`s development as a preferred tourism destination, an integrated tourism master plan for the city is currently underway. This project is billed to be the first of its kind in South Africa undertaken by a major metropolitan area. The project is a joint effort between the City of Tshwane, the city`s tourism stakeholders and an appointed consortium of private sector research firms. The process involving supply and demand analysis is aimed at aligning Tshwane`s tourism products with the needs of tourism brokers and visitor source markets. The process is due for completion in October this year and is expected to be used as a benchmark by other cities.

The City of Tshwane stand at Indaba is DEC stand 155. The launch function for the City of Tshwane is from 18:00 until 20:00 on Sunday 8 May 2005.
