Indonesia will participate in 24 international tourism exhibitions and roadshows in six countries as well as in Australia and the Asian region this year, a senior tourim official said.

Indonesia`s participation in those international tourism exhibitions had now become routine, said Udin Saifuddin, deputy for international relations and marketing to the Minister of Tourism and Culture.

International tourism exhibitions are routine events in which Indonesia must participate to maintain its relations and cooperation with its tourism business partners abroad, Udin said.

This year, Indonesia would be mainly interested in events in ASEAN countries and the Asian region following the switch of tourist market promotions from the United States and Europe to Asia.

Udin said some of the international tourism exhibitions Indonesia would participate in were the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) Travel Mart in Bangkok, JATA Travel Mart in Tokyo, Japan, India Travel Mart, China Travel Mart and ASEAN Travel Forum (ATF).

According to Udin, the countries an Indonesian tourism business delegation will visit this year are South Korea, Japan, China, South Africa, Australia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam.

Asked about the budget for Indonesia`s tourism promotion this year, Udin said the government would allocate Rp90 billion (US$10.7 million) or 33 percent less than last year for the purpose.

Since the budget for Indonesia`s tourist promotion this year is relatively small, the promotions will be conducted in nearby countries, he said. ANTARA-TNA
